08 Sep Pennsylvania AFL-CIO Issues Statement of Support for Strikers at Just Born
As 400 BCTGM Local 6 workers go on strike at Just Born in Bethlehem, Pa., the officers of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO made the following statements:
βThe Pennsylvania AFL-CIO stands in solidarity with the 400 workers on strike at Just Born.Β These workers deserve to be recognized for their hard work and treated with dignity and respect, especially as Just Born has seen profits βoff the chartsβ, according to the companyβs CEO.Β The companyβs refusal to negotiate a fair contract is the latest example of the corporate greed that is eroding Americaβs middle class,β said Pennsylvania AFL-CIO President Rick Bloomingdale.
βWe urge all Pennsylvanians to forgo Peeps, Hot Tamales, Goldenbergβs Chews and Mike & Ikeβs until workers are treated with respect and provided a fair contract at Just Born.Β Collective action is the key to improving our workplaces and communities, and we will fight alongside the workers on strike at Just Born until they get a fair contract.β said Frank Snyder, Secretary Treasurer of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO.
The Pennsylvania AFL-CIO representsΒ more than 900,000 public, private sector, and building trade workers and their families throughout the state.Β
