Union Members Deliver Election for Biden-Harris

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ victory in the 2020 Presidential election is a win for America’s labor movement.

The overwhelming majority of American voters chose Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. American workers turned out in record numbers despite everything they tried to put in our way.

Everywhere in every way, working people are heroically and resiliently fighting back against this pandemic, its economic fall out, chronic income inequality and systemic racism. President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris saw us, heard us and campaigned on a promise that we, as one nation, will build back even better than before.

In January, Americans will have a president and vice president who have pledged to prioritize the needs of working families. Despite extraordinary and unconscionable efforts to silence voters, the democratic process has prevailed in the most important election of our lifetime.

President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris won on a platform that addresses the urgent needs of working people. The BCTGM has long fought for policies that would shift bargaining power back to workers, close the income inequality gap, protect a workers’ right to organize, raise wages for every American worker, and more. We look forward to working closely with the Biden administration to systematically undo the harm caused by the Trump administration—and to build an economy that works for everyone in America, lifts up the contributions of working people, and is committed to addressing and reversing racism.

The facts are clear: Union voters delivered this election for Biden and Harris. Their message and commitment to create “the most significant pro-labor, pro-worker administration” resonated with 12.5 million union workers. Now the entire labor movement stands ready to help the president-elect and vice president-elect deliver a long overdue workers’ first agenda. That starts with passing the HEROES Act to provide our families and communities emergency support and services in the face of this deadly virus.

Winning the election is only the first step to getting America back on track. This victory must be followed by a bold, aggressive pro-working people agenda.
