BCTGM Local 433 Donates Union Made BIMBO USA Buns to Homeless Shelter

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, homeless shelters have experienced a greater need for donations to help sustain those who receive assistance.

The Western Iowa Labor Federation launched a donation drive for the New Visions Homeless Shelter, which provides help for individuals experiencing homelessness and hunger in the Council Bluffs, Iowa and Omaha, Neb. communities.

The effort was led by Scott Punteney, President of the Western Iowa Labor Federation and a BCTGM Local 433 (Sioux City, Iowa) member. The Labor Federation collected curbside donations outside the Firefighters Local 15 union hall in Council Bluffs on May 23-24.

The BIMBO Bakeries USA plant in Bellevue, Neb., Nebraska donated pallets of hamburger buns to the effort. Punteney, a former baker at the plant, and Local 433 steward Steve Howard coordinated the donation and delivered two pickup trucks filled with the union-made buns to the union hall.

The donations will be delivered to the shelter this week.
