15 Mar BCTGM and BIMBO Bakeries Team Up to Donate Union Made Goods to Striking AFM San Antonio Symphony Workers
Labor solidarity was vital to the success of the strikes by BCTGM members at Frito Lay, Nabisco, Kellogg’s and Jon Donaire.
This is why when the BCTGM learned that musicians at the San Antonio Symphony were on strike for a fair contract, we teamed with BIMBO Bakeries U.S.A. to provide the workers and their families with union-made bread and snacks.
For months, the 72 members of American Federation of Musicians (AFM) Local 23 in San Antonio have been on strike against the symphony, demanding a fair contract that recognizes their labor to make the cultural organization a success.
BIMBO donated BCTGM-Local 111 made products from the San Antonio Bakery. Bags of union goodies were assembled at the San Antonio by AFL-CIO. AFL-CIO Executive Vice President Emerita Linda Chavez-Thompson an numerous volunteers. The bags filled with BCTGM-made products will be delivered to the AFM Local 23 union families in the coming days.
Local 23 President Richard Oppenheim expressed his thanks to BCTGM and the AFL-CIO, noting that the solidarity and support was very much appreciated by the striking AFM members.
