AFL-CIO President Shuler to Nabisco Members: “You Are Holding the Line for Every Working Person in this Country!”

Solidarity on Nabisco picket lines across the country has been incredible. Last week, BCTGM Local 358 members on strike in Richmond, Va. were visited by the first woman President of the AFL-CIO, Liz Shuler.

Shuler visited spent the afternoon marching the picket line outside the Nabisco bakery and talking with union members. She reminded the striking Nabisco workers that their sacrifice and courage is on display for every American worker across the nation.

“The 56 unions and 12. 5 million working people are on my shoulder right now and have your back! I wanted to be down here with all of you โ€“ who have taken a risk, shown incredible courage, and who are holding the line for every union member and every working person in this country! We are fed up with the way you have been treated!โ€

-AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler

Local 358 members holding the line spent the day talking with Shuler, International President Anthony Shelton, International Secretary-Treasurer David Woods and East-Central Region International Vice President Roger Miller.

โ€œWe are proud of what you all are doing and we want you to continue to be strong,โ€ President Shelton told the union members.

International Secretary-Treasurer Woods, who is leading the Nabisco negotiations on behalf of the workers, said, โ€œThe company is going to have to come to the table and get serious,โ€ he said. โ€œYou’ve worked hard throughout this pandemic and you all deserve a fair share of those profits and to be treated with respect.โ€
