Special Message from President Shelton: Are You Ready to VOTE?

Brothers and Sisters:

One of the biggest elections of our lifetime is coming up in November. The votes that we cast as union members will be crucial in ensuring we have pro-labor candidates elected at the local and state level all the way up to the White House. BCTGM members need to show our union voting power and solidarity at the ballot box.

On its way to the printing press today, the special 2020 Workers VOTE Edition of the BCTGM NEWS can be downloaded, printed and shared from right here: bctgm.org/2020voterissue

With early voting already taking place in many states, and other states to follow in October, I wanted to get this important issue into the hands of BCTGM members today.

  • What are the BCTGMโ€™s priorities in this election? BCTGM members have made it clear that they want a president who shares their priorities. Check it out on pages 4 and 5.
  • What are the differences between President Trump and Joe Biden on the vital issues that matter to working families? Throughout this issue, we present the facts as they relate to matters that impact the lives of union members, working families and the communities in which we live. Read the facts on pages 6 and 7.
  • What do BCTGM leaders and influencers have to say about what makes the 2020 elections important? I believe that it is important to hear from our own members and leaders on their feelings around the elections. See pages 8 and 9.
  • Have you made your plan? Are you voting by mail? Early? On November 3rd? Check out WorkersFirstVoteUnion.org to check your voter registration status and find the information you need to vote, including polling place locations and resources to vote by mail safely, securely and on time! Print out page 12 to hang in the lunchroom!

Make no mistake, workersโ€™ rights, including safety and health and the right to unionize and bargain collectively are on the ballot this November. We cannot afford another four years of anti-worker policies being dictated to us by corporate-bought politicians in Washington.

I just want you to know, that as your President, I vote with my union cap on. I do this because I have been a member of this union for 47 years. I have seen firsthand from the shop-floor to the negotiating table how the union raises wages, secures life-saving health and safety measures, fights to improve health coverage and secures good pensions for workers and communities across this nation.

At this time more than ever, we need a President and congressional leaders who can deliver on retirement security, affordable health care and stronger protections for workers and unions.

Every vote counts. Stay united in purpose, continue to educate yourself and your family and vote for American workers.

Anthony
