On the Road with Local 6: An Atlantic City Welcome

The BCTGM Local 6 Food Relief caravan arrived this morning at Bader Field in Atlantic City. The mission? To help the more than 15,000 casino and entertainment workers who have lost jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Local 6 team began the food relief journey with two 26-foot trucks on Tuesday, May 26, and was joined by two additional BIMBO Bakeries USA trucks filled with bread, rolls and Entenmann’s products. Phil Paturzo, VP Labor Relations Bimbo Bakeries USA accompanied the BCTGM team to Bader Field.

The Local 6 team was greeted early this morning by New Jersey AFL-CIO President Charles Wowkanech.

โ€œI am extremely proud of the compassion and solidarity of our BCTGM union brothers and sisters for their support of the entire community,โ€ said Wowkanech. โ€œThe BCTGM leadership was extremely enthusiastic about contributing to this great cause, and as a result, there will be tractor-trailers with union-made baked goods waiting for families in need.”

Bader Field is an old air field comprised of 142 acres. The former air strips are providing Operation Feed Atlantic City with ample space to park the BCTGM Food Relief trucks, unload products and set up an orderly distribution system for Atlantic City working families.

“The BCTGM International Union answered the call to stand with union families in their time of need, and with the entire Atlantic City community, whose lives were plunged into insecurity through no fault of their own. We are so proud,” adds Wowkanech.

We will be posting photos of the BCTGM Food Relief distribution throughout the event today in Atlantic City.
