12 Jan NFL Players Association Tells Super Bowl Host: “We Stand in Full Solidarity with the Workers of Franklin Street Bakery!”
The Executive Director of the NFL Players Association, DeMaurice Smith, has sent a letter to the CEO of the Super Bowl Host Committee, condemning the actions of “Taste of the NFL” director and Franklin Street Bakery owner Wayne Kostroski.
“For more than a year, Franklin Street Bakery workers have been exploring whether to exercise their freedom to form a union so they can have a voice in the workplace and negotiate for a better life for their families. Many Franklin Street Bakery workers are reportedly paid as little as $11 per hour, well below what it takes to sustain a family, raising the real possibility that some of Mr. Kostroski’s own employees are often forced to visit the same food pantries for whom he raises money. We are also aware that Mr. Kostroski and his managers are under federal investigation for violating their employees’ workplace rights, including the right to form or join a union.”
