12 Jan NFL Players Association Tells Super Bowl Host: “We Stand in Full Solidarity with the Workers of Franklin Street Bakery!”
The Executive Director of the NFL Players Association, DeMaurice Smith, has sent a letter to the CEO of the Super Bowl Host Committee, condemning the actions of โTaste of the NFLโย director and Franklin Street Bakery owner Wayne Kostroski.โFor more than a year, Franklin Street Bakery workers have been exploring whether to exercise their freedom to form a union so they can have a voice in the workplace and negotiate for a better life for their families.ย Many Franklin Street Bakery workers areย reportedly paid as little as $11 per hour, well below what it takes to sustain a family,ย raising the real possibility that some of Mr. Kostroskiโs own employees are oftenย forced to visit the same food pantries for whom he raises money. We are also awareย that Mr. Kostroski and his managers are under federal investigation for violating theirย employeesโ workplace rights, including the right to form or join a union.โ
