International President of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union to speak at January 20th Martin Luther King event in Memphis
David B. Durkee, International President of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union (BCTGM) headquartered in Kensington, Md., is the invited Special Guest at a Dr. Martin Luther King celebration in Memphis, Tenn. on January 20.
The service commemorating Dr. Kingโs legacy will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the Cane Creek Baptist Church, 1785 Bellevue Blvd. in Memphis. In addition to noting the historic battle for equality and justice led by Dr. King, Durkee will reflect on the lockout of 220 workers at the Kellogg cereal factory in Memphis. The BCTGM represents the Local 252G members locked out by the Kellogg Company since October 22nd, 2013.
The Memphis labor, social and religious communities have provided valuable support for the locked out Kellogg workers and their families since the injustice began.
The event is being sponsored by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and in addition to Durkee, the program will feature community leaders, elected officials, and the 220 locked out Kellogg workers, who will be among the honored guests.
