It’s Just a Poster
Earlier this year we were pleased to hear that the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) had issued a modest rule requiring businesses to display a free poster informing employees of their workplace rights — rights they’ve had for over 70 years.
Big Business, on the other hand, went nuts. They filed several lawsuits, pushed their right-wing friends in Congress to hold hearings and introduce bills to block the rule, and whined to the press about the ‘burden’ it would put on businesses. Now, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is claiming the poster will cost employers an absurd $5 billion to implement.
Wait, what? $5 billion just to hang a free poster?!?!
We wanted to expose the hysteria for what it really is — political theater intended to undermine even the most basic protections for the 99%.
It’s a funny video, but the issue is serious. The assaults on this basic, commonsense rule are part of a relentless string of attacks by the 1% on an agency that is often the only recourse union and non-union workers have when their rights are violated on the job. Without the NLRB, workers get left in the dust.
Corporate interests are clearly committed to fighting any iota of progress for the 99%. But we’re just as committed to fighting back.
