A Little About Local Union 68...

The BCTGM Local Union 68 charter (pictured here) dates back to 1957.

The Local was very successful in organizing bakers in the region in the 1970s and 1980s, and maintains a strong commitment to organizing today.

There are approximately 1,700 members employed in 19 facilities covered by a union contract for Local 68. Among these contracts is the contract with G. Weston's Thomas' English Muffin plant located in Frederick, Md. This union bakery has been under Local 68 contract since late 1977. The local recently concluded negotiations on a new five year contract, which was ratified overwhelmingly by union members. According to Oskoian this new agreement could be considered "one of the best bakery contracts we have been able to achieve with a high level of good benefits."

"Over the years, we have built a relationship at this bakery to be proud of. There is a mutual understanding on treating the workers with Dignity, Justice and Respect," notes Business Agent/ Financial Secretary-Treasurer Gary Oskoian.
